Each of my designs begins at the flower store or during my observations on a daily stroll. I bring home freshly cut flowers and watch how they change in hue, shape, texture, and form during the drying process. While watching their change, I begin to consider designs, reflecting the life cycle of these flowers, making sure to catch them during the highlight of their beauty. I listen to what kinds of flowers and colors you like, make your special items with you, and include you in the creation process.
All the fabric and a majority of the embroidery thread that you see used in my creations have been hand-dyed by me. This dying process ensures that no two flowers are ever the same, even if they are from the same design. All the items I create are constructed with the intent of aging with you. *However, please ensure that all items are kept dry to ensure longevity.
I think of the recipient as I make each stitch. While every step of the creation process makes the flower unique, I think the embroidery portion has its own charm. Hand embroidery has a chance to add variety and difference to the design. It can be the color balance, space between stitches, and the thickness of stitches, which carries the warmth from the artist to the recipient.
Joining the independent pieces into a final product is the most exciting part of the process for me. Watching how the flowers and leaves come together in those last steps before they become jewelry, items for interior design, combs, headpieces, or so many other possibilities, I think of those who will receive this gift. Even after the gift has been received, it becomes an item of their own as the wires I use to allow the owner to position the flowers as they wish, making it even more a one-of-a-kind gift.
